1957

Initiation of youth activities by Sahebji, as directed by Yogiji Mahãrãj

When Sahebji gained admission to V P Science College in Vallabh Vidyanagar, Bapa instructed him to do daily puja, prayer and apply tilak-chãndlo on his forehead.

Two months later, Yogiji Mahãrãj instructed Sahebji to initiate a Weekly Sabhã on Sunday for the youths studying in college.

Sahebji therefor began the sabhã in his room at New Three Hostel. Initially there were only four youths attending sabhã : Gordhan Bhagat, Shanubhai (later became Principal of Commerce College), Vitthaldas and Sahebji.

Many students from nearby villages would go home for the weekend, so they could not attend. Yogiji Mahãrãj came to know of this and asked to re-schedule the Weekly Sabhã to Thursdays. The number attending rose to 12 students. Following Yogiji Mahãrãj’s guidance, Vachnamrut, Swami ni Vato and the newsletters were read during the sabhã.

1959

Spiritual Soulmates

In 1959, Sahebji moved into Royal Hostel where the Weekly Thursday Sabhã continued in his room. In June 1959, on Shantibhai’s very first day in college Sahebji met him at his room in Royal Hostel and invited him to the Sabhã.

In this year Sahebji also introduces Ratibhai and Ashvinbhai (youth from Sahebji’s native village, Sokhada) to Yogiji Mahãrãj and arranges Yogiji Mahãrãj’s Padhrãmni at their room in Vidya Smruti Bunglow, Vallabh Vidyanagar.

1961

Yogiji Mahãrãj and the Youth Dynamic

The dynamics of the Weekly Sabhã grew when Ashvinbhai, Shantibhai, Sanandbhai, Ratibhai and V.S. joined the Sabhã. Their strong attachment to Yogiji Mahãrãj was the bond of the soul (ãtmã) with God (Paramãtmã). The enthusiasm and readiness with which they followed Yogiji Mahãrãj’s guidance, meant that although they were vastly different in personality and mindset, they worked together as one. Within two years, the number of youths attending the Weekly Sabhã increased to 30.

Pujya Manikaka, was extremely dear to Yogiji Mahãrãj and having surrendered his life to the satsang would attend the sabhã and explain the Vachanãmrut.
He naturally and simply conveyed the essence of the Akshar Purushottam Upãsanã to the youths.

Yogi Mahãrãj’s constant care flowed through his numerous letters to Sahebji, containing instructions relating to daily activities and guidance for the youths. The letters were read in the Weekly Sabhã, and bound by Yogiji Mahãrãj’s love, the youths would follow his every instruction.

Yogiji Mahãrãj’s Prophecy – The first college of Brahmavidyã

In 1963, when Sahebji moved into Sardar Patel University Hostel, Yogiji Mahãrãj gave another important aagnã. He directed Sahebji to create a mandir in the hostel. Sahebji and his room-mates immediately vacated their room no 14 to prepare the Mandir.

On the first day of the Mandir at room 14, surprisingly, Param Pujya Pramukh Swãmi Mahãrãj arrived at the hostel. Youths were delighted and the pratishtã Aarti was done by Param Pujya Pramukh Swãmi Mahãrãj, followed by sabhã.

While following Yogiji Mahãrãj’s aagnã, Sahebji and the youths did not think about numbers, as they were more concerned about following Yogiji Mahãrãj’s instruction.

Although the Weekly Sabhã started with 4 boys, Bapa asked Sahebji to gather more, so the number gradually grew from 4 to 15 to 30 until eventually there were almost 400 youths! Since the number increased, the sabhã was moved to Ramkrishna Mission Hall.

1964

Fulfilling Yogiji Mahãrãj’s Vision –  Aagnã and Sevã

Yogiji Mahãrãj introduced Sahebji and the youths to Dadu Kaka to guide them in youth satsang activities. Dadu Kaka was greatly inspirational and brought them closer to understanding the greatness of Yogiji Mahãrãj.

In this year, Yogiji Mahãrãj entrusted Sahebji with the responsibility of building a youth hostel, under the guidance of Dadu Kaka. Sahebji and the youths undertook this sevã wholeheartedly and brought Yogiji Mahãrãj’s long-term vision to realisation.

Feb – 1965

Youth Leadership

In February 1965, on the occasion of Shãstriji Mahãrãj’s centenary celebrations at Atladara, Yogiji Mahãrãj asked Sahebji to gather 250 youths, prepare them and bring them for sevã. He was greatly pleased when the youths were gathered, all dressed in the same crisp white attire and eager to do sevã.

Apr – 1965

Youth Leadership

In April 1965, Sahebji and youth moved into Shree Akshar Purshottam Chhãtrãlay, Vallabh Vidyanagar.

In this year, Sahebji and youths presented a proposal to the Trust Committee asking for permission to hold Yogiji Mahãrãj’s 75th birthday celebrations in Vallabh Vidyanagar and take complete responsibility for its organization, including funding. The Trust Committee accepted the proposal but when Sahebji informed Yogiji Mahãrãj, he initially said No! Yogiji Mahãrãj said he would only accept this on the condition that 11 youths become sãdhus. Sahebji’s bond with Yogiji Mahãrãj was such that he and his close friends were ready to become sãdhus and accepted this.

1966

Unique Mantra Dikshã
14th May 1966

A few days prior to Yogiji Mahãrãj’s 75th Birthday Celebrations in Vallabh Vidyanagar, Yogiji Mahãrãj asked Sahebji to meet him at Shãhibaug Mandir.

On 14th May at 5.00am Yogiji Mahãrãj planted the seed of a pioneering new path. He uniquely initiated Sahebji as a sãdhu in plain clothes, and told him that he and the other youths must keep their hearts saffron. According to Yogiji Mahãrãj’s aagnã, all eleven youths became sãdhus in plain clothes.

1967

Formal initiation of the first order of Vratdhãri Sãdhaks
26 January 1967, Thursday – Poshi Poonam

In this year, Dadu Kaka-Pappaji and Sona Baa formalised the initiation that had been given to Sahebji by Yogiji Mahãrãj, by giving the group the oath of the Sãdhu, which became known as Vratdhãri Dikshã. It was the auspicious day of Poshi Poonam, during the weekly Thursday sabhã at Shreeji Colony.

The new Swaminarayan order conceived by Yogiji Mahãrãj was given further impetus with the blessings of Kakaji-Pappaji and Sona Baa, and thus Anoopam Mission was born.

The Symbolic Dress-Code of a Vratdhãri Sãdhu
5th   January 1977  – Poshi Poonam

The sãdhaks’ attire is highly symbolic. It consists of a sky blue colored shirt and cream colored trousers.

The cream color is symbolic of the earth and of our position. The blue is the color of the sky and is symbolic of the highest spiritual state, which is union with God.

The attire therefore symbolizes the quest to rise from our current state to the highest spiritual state.

A saffron and white colored badge is also worn. The logo of Anoopam Mission, an eight-spoke wheel, is depicted in the center of the badge. The saffron color is symbolic of renunciation and purification, which must be practiced internally.

The Chakra – represents the wheel of divine energy through which progress is constant. Each of the eight spokes represents the principles by which internal purification is achieved.
